So, you’ve been aim training for a while now and you’re looking to put together your own training or warm-up playlist. You want to decide curate the tasks, the order they’re in, and the amount of repetitions. This is great, as this approach keeps practice intentional instead of random or unfocused. On Aimlabs on PC, it’s actually really easy to create or customize playlists!

Start by heading to the Create tab on the top navigation bar. Select Manage Your Playlists. From here, you can either edit existing playlists, such as your own playlists or remixing someone else’s, or choose the New Playlist button to create a brand new one. From there, search the task library and add tasks based on your goals. Order tasks to match how you want to warm up, peak, and cool down during a session.

Each playlist allows full control over repetitions. Set more repetitions on tasks that you are working to drill or if you’re focusing on that aiming subset, and then you can run less repetitions on secondary skills or cool down tasks. This control helps manage fatigue and keeps quality high across a session. Shorter focused playlists can often outperform long unfocused sessions for consistency and retention.

If you’re looking to create a playlist that others will play, branding matters more than most players expect. Add a clear title and description so other players can understand the goals and purpose of the playlist. Upload a custom thumbnail to make the playlist easy to spot on the Training tab. If you want the Playlist to get some plays, you’ll want it to stand out! Finally, remember to upload the playlist to the Steam Workshop as that will be required for it to be searchable for other players.

If you’re looking to edit your existing playlist, return to the Create tab anytime to adjust task order, repetitions, or descriptions. If you’re not seeing your playlist initially, don’t worry. The playlists are broken down into four separate categories on that left bar, Trending, Recent, Favorites, and Created By Me. Make sure to select the correct filter on the Playlists search section on the left margin to find the playlist you’re looking for.

You will likely want to make edits over time, as training needs shift as your skill improves. A flexible playlist keeps practice aligned with current performance instead of outdated habits. Build, review, adjust, then repeat, but keep your training focused and intentional and you will see results!

Hey aimers, in service of providing all of the information that someone new to aim training will need to get up to speed, we’re breaking down the very basics of aim training. Consider this the foundation of everything you will be doing to develop your aim.

This guide features videos made with Apex Legends coach and creator Dazs, in collaboration with the Aimlabs Academy. The sections below will feature a video hosted by Dazs, but the text is available as well if you would prefer to read through. If you come across any terms you’re unfamiliar with, be sure to check out our aim training glossary!

Flicking: The Art of Click Timing

Let’s start by covering flicking, the bread and butter of any shooter. Flicking consists of your ability to swiftly adjust your aim, while precisely timing your shot to fire when your target lines up with your crosshair. Flicking is a critical aspect of aiming in any shooter, especially in those with a lower time to kill such as Rainbow Six Siege, where the margin for error is slim and the stakes are high.

Flicking is broken down into two main categories, we call these “static flicking” and “dynamic flicking”. Static flicking is the art of shooting at stationary targets, while dynamic flicking focuses on aiming at moving targets.

The following task will put your skills to the test in a controlled environment, ensuring that you apply your newfound knowledge optimally. It focuses on the flicking subset of aiming through two phases, the first serving as an introduction to static flicking, where the targets are stationary before it transition into the second phase, which highlights dynamic flicking, where the targets will be moving.

Play the Flicking Task

Tracking: Keep Your Eyes on the Prize

The second category of aiming we’ll cover is “tracking.” Similar to flicking, tracking plays a key role in most shooters. In this case, tracking ensures that your crosshair remains glued to your opponents. Tracking is especially important in games like Call of Duty or Apex Legends where the time to kill is higher and sustained accuracy can tip the scales in those prolonged engagements.

Tracking is broken down into two categories, “precise tracking,” and “reactive tracking.” Precise tracking is all about your ability to make minor, pinpoint adjustments while tracking, and reactive tracking on the other hand is the jazz of the aiming world, relying on countering the spontaneity in your opponent’s movement with quick reactions.

The following task will put your skills to the test, training your ability to keep your eyes on the prize in your favorite shooter. It focuses on the tracking subset of aiming and has two phases. The first serves as an introduction to precise tracking, in which you will focus on making minor, pinpoint adjustments. The second phase introduces you to reactive tracking, where the targets move more sporadically.

Play the Tracking Task

Switching: Transferring Between Targets

Last but not least, we will cover the third main category of aiming, “switching.” Switching is the heart of dynamic decision-making in aiming, where your focus transfers from one target to the next in a swift, seamless motion. Switching is pivotal in your command over chaotic environments, commonly seen in hero shooters such as Overwatch 2 and Marvel Rivals, or large scale games such as Battlefield 6. Mastering the art of switching significantly improves your odds of surviving an ambush in your game of choice.

Switching branches out into two subsets: “static switching,” and “dynamic switching.” While static switching hones your ability to rapidly shift your aim between fixed targets, dynamic switching elevates the challenge by introducing movement into the equation.

The following task is designed to challenge and refine your switching skills, putting the principles we just covered right into action. It will focus on the switching subset of aiming with two phases, the first serving as an introduction to static switching, where you will switch between stationary targets, and then dynamic switching, which will feature moving targets.

Here's 4 things you can do with your first experience on Aimlabs.

]]>

You installed Aimlabs and moved through the first setup menus. You picked your game and visual settings or skipped through them. Now you’re on the Home Screen wondering what to do next. Here are four steps that help you start fast and train with purpose.

1: Customize Your Settings

The onboarding process covers popular shooters, but your game might not appear on that list. You still have a wide set of Game Profiles. These profiles also work as a sensitivity calculator. You enter your current sensitivity for a game like Counter Strike 2, then switch the profile to something like Marvel Rivals. Aimlabs handles the calculation for you.

Select the gear icon in the top right corner. This brings you to Settings. Sensitivity is the first menu you will see. Pick your Game Profile, set your FOV, and switch between simple or advanced options. Choose the Mouse or Controller tab and enter the sensitivity you use in your game.

You can adjust more here. Change your crosshair, set your audio levels, tune your graphics, and pick visual styles. Many players pick background colors and target colors with strong contrast. This makes targets easier to track. Match your crosshair color to those choices.

You can hide the gun model as well. Many players prefer a clear view of the crosshair and targets with no visual clutter. Most games do not support this option, so it may affect how realistic the training feels. Pick what works best for you.

2: Find a Task or Playlist

The Home Screen gives you quick access to training. The Quick Play widget sits in the center. The Tasks tab’s Trending filter shows what players run most. You can also filter by Recently Played, Favorites, or tasks you created. The Playlists tab works the same way.

If you want something specific, use the Search Bar in the bottom left corner. You can also click Play in the top left corner, then select Training. Training Programs give you curated playlists for each game or aim category. These use Adaptive Tasks to match your skill level.

You will also see Featured and Search inside the Training menu. Featured highlights new or popular content. Search helps you find exact tasks or playlists. When you open a playlist, you will see the included tasks on the right side. When you open a task, you will see your recent task data and the leaderboards.

3: Check Out the Aimlabs Benchmarks

Benchmarking helps you track progress. Aimlabs offers official Benchmarks that you can reach through the Play button on the Home Screen.

Benchmarks include three tiers: Entry, Intermediate, and Elite. Start with Entry. You will run tasks across different aim subcategories such as micro flicking, reactive tracking, and speed switching. These results show your strengths and weaknesses. If you learn that precise tracking holds you back, look for tasks or playlists that focus on that skill. Run the Benchmarks again later to measure progress.

Targeting your weak areas leads to faster gains. Improvements in one subcategory often support improvements in another.

4: Create or Customize Your Own Playlists

Once you know what you want to train, you can build your own playlist. Select Create on the top navigation bar. Then select Manage Your Playlists. You can edit existing playlists or create a new one with the + New Playlist button.

Add a thumbnail, title, and description. Search for tasks and add them in any order. Set how many repetitions you want for each task. You can upload the playlist to the Steam Workshop so others can run it. You can edit your playlist any time by coming back to the Create tab.

These steps help you move through Aimlabs with confidence and start your training with focus and direction. Good luck with your early sessions and keep building from there.

When Your Aim Training Hits a Plateau https://aimlabs.com/articles/aimlabs/when-your-aim-training-hits-a-plateau/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=when-your-aim-training-hits-a-plateau Fri, 28 Nov 2025 22:03:39 +0000 https://aimlabs.com/articles/?p=3774 Find yourself hitting a plateau in your aim training progress? It happens. Let's breakdown the signs, and what you can do to break through!

The post When Your Aim Training Hits a Plateau appeared first on Aimlabs.com Articles.

]]>
When your aim stops improving, you’re probably going to feel stuck. You train daily, your scores stay flat, and you question your progress. This is a common occurrence in a lot of practice, not just aim training. Plateaus do not mean that you’ve hit your limit. They mean your training needs better structure, feedback, and purpose.

A plateau often signals one weak skill, not overall failure. If your flick speed is high but your accuracy drops, control is your issue. If your hits land but they feel slow, your reaction or processing speed needs focus. If your task scores are strong but you lose duels in game, your transfer to real match movement and stress or pressure scenarios is weak. Break your aim into core parts. Reaction time, flicking, tracking, and target switching. Look at task results, track your progress and analyze, so you can find which piece is holding you back.

Train with intent. Simply going through the motions and playing tasks with no goal in mind is going to keep you stuck. Give each session one focus, like speed, precision, or control. Do not mix competing goals in one block. Use a weekly rhythm where you diagnose on day one, focus on your weakest skill for several days, then shift to in-game transfer work toward the end of the week. Finish with a cooldown or rest session. This structure targets weaknesses while protecting your consistency.

If tasks feel as though you’re going through the motionss, you are rehearsing, not training. Find tasks that are similar but more challenging. A lot of the most popular tasks on the Steam Workshop will have multiple difficulties, ranging from Novice to Expert. Play a more difficult task until your accuracy drops below eighty percent, then hold there until you improve. Growth happens when training feels slightly uncomfortable, not when it feels safe or frustrating. The Adaptive Tasks feature actually works to do this automatically as well.

Keep in mind, variety is useful only when applied with structure. Switching tasks every session slows progress. But repeating the same task for months can stall progress as well, so plan out a simple approach. For example, stick to three tasks for three weeks that focus on one skill area. After three weeks, replace one of those tasks, not all of them. This keeps your brain adapting without resetting progress.

Not all growth is going to show up in your scores, so watch for smoother cursor control, fewer over-corrections, and better rhythm between targets. Compare some of your replays a few weeks apart to spot improvements. You will notice faster correction, better stability, and stronger decision speed before your numbers improve.

Sometimes the plateau is not mechanical. Fatigue, poor posture, eye strain, or mental burnout block performance. If accuracy drops across sessions, frustration starts during warmup, or movement feels sloppy even when rested, scale it back. Cut training volume for one week. Shift to cooldown tasks, save the leaderboard mindset, and let your consistency reset.

A plateau is feedback, not a failure. It shows you reached the limit of your current approach. When you analyze your weaknesses, shift your focus, and train with purpose, your progress restarts.

Whether you are new to Fortnite, or you are coming back after a long break, this training plan will help you hone the essential skills needed for excelling in the game, particularly focusing on improving your gunplay. It’s designed to help you understand and practice the mechanics that are going to be needed to elevate your Fortnite aim.

Our training is divided into the three main aiming categories: Flicking, Tracking, and Target Switching, prefaced by a primer exercise for smoothness. Each of these subsets will play a critical role in enhancing your aim in Fortnite. While our trainer may not directly replicate Fortnite’s unique building mechanics, it will strengthen your overall combat skills, preparing you for a wide variety of in-game scenarios. Make sure to check out our custom Aimlabs maps in Fortnite for more unique challenges!

Keeping Your Aim Steady Under Pressure

Our first focus of this quickstart guide will be on smoothness, which is essential in aiming across any shooter. Smoothness means moving your crosshair in a fluid motion without jitter. Often, as you move your mouse, you may notice that your crosshair is skipping across the screen as opposed to moving fluidly.

In shooters, especially those with a higher TTK (Time To Kill) like Fortnite, smoothness becomes a crucial aspect of combat. These games require you to track targets for extended periods in order to maximize damage output. Effective tracking and smoothness are tied to one another; any inconsistency can lead to missed shots and reduced damage. Given Fortnite’s high TTK, maintaining smoothness can significantly impact the outcome of your aim duels.

This task will help you develop a solid foundation in smoothness and warm your hand up for the rest of the exercises in our plan.

Fast and Accurate Flicks

Now, let’s explore how core aiming mechanics apply to Fortnite, starting with flicking. Flicking is crucial in shooters for the purpose of rapidly adjusting your crosshair to a new target and timing your inputs precisely upon your target aligning with your crosshair.

Although tracking tends to take priority in high TTK games like Fortnite, the game’s unique building mechanics significantly influence its gameplay. Fortnite offers two main modes: the classic mode where building is enabled and the zero build in which it is omitted. In zero build, tracking takes the lead due to frequent open-field engagements.

Conversely, in Fortnite’s standard mode, the ability to quickly build structures like walls and floors alters the combat dynamics significantly. Here, flicking is vital for quickly taking shots during the brief moments in which your opponents are exposed before they can rebuild cover.

Next, we’ll introduce tasks to train your flicking skills, focusing on its two main types: static flicking and dynamic flicking.

Landing Fast Shots on Stationary Targets

The first type of flicking we’ll focus on is static flicking, which is all about aiming at immobile targets. This skill is crucial in any shooter, including Fortnite, where you often encounter scenarios requiring you to target stationary or slow-moving enemies. Some of these situations include instances where opponents are scoped in and standing still, moments in which an enemy’s movement is hindered as they heal, or even the short period in which their player model is exposed following the destruction of their defensive structures.

Getting comfortable with the variety of shotguns available in your arsenal is particularly important in Fortnite due to its unique building dynamics. Box fighting, a common tactic where players build box-like structures to gain the advantage in their duels, highlights the necessity of effective shotgun use. These brief encounters demand quick, precise flicks, especially when exploiting openings in an opponent’s defenses.

Another key Fortnite mechanic that makes use of static flicking is right-hand peeking. This tactic takes advantage of the game’s third-person perspective, allowing players to see opponents from behind cover without exposing themselves. Quick reactions and accurate flicks are essential in capitalizing on these moments.

We will now introduce a set of tasks designed to enhance your static flicking skills, ensuring you understand and can apply these mechanics effectively. The targets will be static, work on speeding up your flicks gradually, more and more as you feel more confident in your accuracy.

Snapping to Moving Targets

Having explored static flicking, we will now shift our focus to dynamic flicking, a crucial aspect of targeting moving enemies in Fortnite. Unlike static flicking, which involves aiming at fixed point targets, dynamic flicking necessitates constant adjustments to keep up with the fast-paced nature of an opponent’s movement, especially following the addition of sprinting, sliding, and mantling mechanics in Fortnite.

Dynamic flicking is vital for engagements that occur in open spaces or within close-quarters aim duels such as boxfights. During such combat encounters, you will find yourself relying heavily on dynamic flicking, requiring you to make constant adjustments to your aim. This skill allows players to swiftly react to their enemy’s movements, which is crucial for landing accurate shots.

Fortnite’s gunplay, such as the first shot accuracy mechanic that eliminates bloom on the initial shot from certain weapons, further underscores the importance of dynamic flicking. By combining this with precise dynamic flicking, players can maximize their damage output against moving targets, increasing their chances of landing those clean back to back headshots and achieving a victory royale.

The upcoming tasks will further develop your dynamic flicking skills, ensuring a comprehensive grasp of these crucial mechanics. Focus on reacting to the targets movements rather than chasing a perfect prediction. Don’t be afraid to zoom in when possible as it can help get a better read on the target.

Maintaining Aim on Moving Enemies

While flicking is integral to the game, tracking is also crucial in Fortnite, working on your ability to accurately follow a moving target with your crosshair for extended periods. This skill is essential due to the movement mechanics we mentioned before, like sprinting, sliding, and mantling, which enhance players’ ability to be evasive during combat. Efficient movement is as important as accurate aim, giving you an extra line of defense in hindering an opponent’s ability to land shots on you.

Mastering tracking will not only allow you to consistently land shots on moving targets, it also improves your maneuverability, allowing you to navigate Fortnite’s fast-paced engagements more adeptly. Although Fortnite’s higher TTK and building mechanics often prioritize a combination of skills, tracking remains vital in scenarios like catching opponents in exposed high mobility scenarios, such as using jump pads or gliders, or in the zero build mode, where gunfight dynamics change substantially.

Now, let’s focus on the two main types of tracking: precise tracking and reactive tracking, which will be the subject of our upcoming tasks.

Staying Locked on Small Movements

Precise tracking involves making continuous, small adjustments to your aim, essential for hitting targets that move within small distances. This skill becomes particularly important in long-range gunfights where opponents and their movements appear smaller in perspective, requiring finer control over your mouse movements.

Unlike reactive tracking, which often focuses on broader adjustments, precise tracking primarily relies on micro-adjustments using your wrist and fingers. This finer control keeps your crosshair accurately lined up with targets, even as they move unpredictably or when vertical elements like jump pads or gliders come into play.

Mastering precise tracking is crucial when dealing with skilled opponents in Fortnite who utilize advanced movement techniques, especially in scenarios like zero build mode where building isn’t available. It’s especially vital when aiming at enemies who are jumping or strafing during combat, ensuring that you land your shots during these tricky situations.

The upcoming tasks will focus on honing your precise tracking skills, providing a practical understanding of this critical mechanic. Maintain precise, smooth movements as you track the target, with a focus on smoothness.

Reacting to Sudden Target Shifts

Having covered precise tracking, let’s talk about reactive tracking, a form of tracking that focuses on responding quickly to large or abrupt changes in your opponent’s movement. Reactive tracking is crucial in the fast-paced close-quarter nature of engagements in Fortnite. Finer adjustments matter less in these scenarios, with shift, sharp corrections taking the lead.

Fortnite’s dynamic skirmishes, building, and editing heighten the need for reactive tracking. Reactive tracking is often confused with predictive tracking, in which a target’s next movements are “locked” and all you need to do is follow along with your crosshair. Unlike predictive tracking, in which you anticipate where the target will be and aim ahead of its current position, reactive tracking involves constantly reacting to the target’s movements in real time, necessitating quick reactions.

The tasks ahead will focus on improving your ability to adapt to rapid directional changes and enhancing your reactive tracking skills in Fortnite’s ever-changing environment. Remember, react, don’t predict. Stay reactive, read the targets movement and then adjust.

As we conclude our plan’s journey, having broken down the fundamentals of aiming in Fortnite, it is crucial to reflect on the skills we have honed and the knowledge that has been amassed. The intricacies of static versus dynamic flicking, the fine adjustments required in precise tracking, and the swift adjustments that its reactive counterpart necessitate. All these topics have been explored in detail to give you the edge you need on the battlefield.

To ensure the practical application of your newfound understanding of aiming in Fortnite, we’ve weaved playable tasks into this plan to help you strengthen and test these skills. These exercises aren’t just drills; they’re stepping stones to transforming theory into instinct, where every flick, track, and switch becomes a natural extension of your skills and knowledge. Make sure to revisit them often, in order to reinforce what we’ve covered, and then take it out to your next drop in!

]]>
Shotguns are the most impactful weapon class found in Fortnite, mastering these high-damage weapons will help enable you to win the majority of your aim duels, especially when it comes down to box-fighting, one of Fortnite’s most fundamental mechanics that any proficient player will use to their advantage.

Shotguns are often seen as “noob guns” across a plethora of shooters, as they possess a lower skill ceiling than other weapon types due to their limited effective range and are often forgiving in close-quarter engagements due to their large spread as they fire multiple pellets. In Fortnite, shotguns are necessary for dominating your aim duels, and their generally forgiving nature is diminished by the fact that people will swiftly build defensive structures to block any incoming damage, giving you a short window to react. The first solid shot to land usually dictates who comes out on top in the engagement.

If you want to master the art of one-pumping in Fortnite, you will need to narrow your sights on training relevant mechanics. Shotguns may not require the most precise aim, but they certainly require swift reactions and the ability to flick widely and still land the majority of the pellets in each shot.

This selected task will greatly enhance your ability to rapidly flick to targets under pressure, ensuring that you make the most out of Fortnite’s heavy hitters. It’s designed to emulate in-game scenarios where you are using a shotgun while enemies are moving evasively, moving you side to side while a single target spawns, bouncing upward, aimed to challenge your aim on the move. Focus on lining up your shot accurately before firing to avoid any costly misses!

Focus on your speed flicking skills and your reactivity to ensure that you’re able to fight fire with fire when coming in contact with another shotgun user in those crucial and frequently occurring box-fights. Effective shotgun use is all about finding openings in your opponents builds and capitalizing off of that. Utilize these concepts moving forward and you will be one-pumping as second nature.

Here's how you can learn how to defend bombsites like a VALORANT Pro!

The post Learning How to Defend Bombsites like a Pro! appeared first on Aimlabs.com Articles.

]]>
Ready to step up your bombsite defense game in VALORANT? Here, we will work on refining your defense strategy, focusing on three different sites, helping you become a solid anchor for your team to rely on. By the end, you will have attained a solid understanding of how to efficiently hold key angles, manage rotations, and respond to enemy positioning like a pro.

Mastering the art of defense in VALORANT is essential for controlling the flow of the game and supporting your team’s tactics. Strong defensive skills allow you to defend important chokepoints, limit the attacking team’s options, and buy time for teammates to rotate and reinforce the site being attacked.

Effective bombsite defense not only makes it harder for attackers to plant the spike but also increases the chances of a successful retake if they manage to do so. By understanding map-specific dynamics, like Bind’s teleporters, Haven’s three-site setup, or the narrow chokepoints on Ascent and learning to adapt to each of these variables, you become a reliable anchor that can fend off enemy tactics and secure critical rounds for your team.

Holding the Line in B on Bind

Let’s start with defending bombsite B on Bind. Bind’s B bombsite offers one of VALORANT’s most unique defensive experiences due to the map’s teleporters, which allow attackers to rapidly change their point of approach, rotating almost instantaneously. For defenders, this requires constantly evaluating potential threats and avoiding over-rotating, a common mistake among newer players. Understanding how Bind’s teleporters work and preparing for rapid rotations is essential in keeping a composed defense. Bind has two teleporters, both facilitating fast rotations for attackers:

1) B Long to A Baths: Entry at B Long, exit just outside A Bath.

2) A Lamps to B Short: Entry near A Site, exit near B Short, across from Hookah (also called B Window).

These teleporters help attackers switch bombsites faster than defenders can typically rotate through the long, narrow pathways offered through defender spawn, so learning how to position your team in advance and reacting in a calculated manner without over-comitting is critical. B Site’s narrow approach corridors and central container (also known as tube) make it a difficult site to retake post-plant, especially if your team is limiting their approach to rotating into the site from your spawn.

Focusing on mastering B Site angles and being cautious of agents like Jett or Raze utilizing their vertical abilities to create an opening for their team, can make all the difference in maintaining control. The following taskwill put these concepts in action.

The task prompts you to shoot at bots peeking you from both horizontal and vertical positions as you move. The task is designed to reinforce your ability to hold attackers off of B Site on Bind, while training you to efficiently defend against the three positions that enemies will push you from.

Controlling A Main on Ascent

Next, let’s talk about the specifics of holding down A Main on Ascent. While at first glance this can seem simple, it is often more challenging than it looks. The entry corridor to A site from a A main is narrow, forcing attackers through a tight chokepoint. Although this provides an advantage to defenders, inconsistent aim or angle-holding can lead to attackers breaking through easily with the use of well timed utility and agent-specific abilities, and once your defense has been broken, retaking A site can be a challenging process.

Attackers have two main approaches to Ascent’s A site:

1) A Short to Tree: A more open route, allowing attackers to gain sight of defenders in mid.

2) A Main: Direct and narrow, leading to a chokepoint entry ideal for defenders to control.

With enough practice, you can gain a strategic advantage on holding A Main. The site’s openness gives attackers multiple approach angles, so controlling A Main early on into the round prevents attackers from getting close to site. Due to how Ascent’s pre-round protection barriers work, you will have the positional advantage as a defender, able to hold angles deeper into A main before the enemy team can spot you. While this can provide the opportunity for picking up a quick kill, don’t get too greedy.

Remember, even if you trade kill-for-kill, losing a defender on a bombsite is a lot more negative to the defending team than the attacking team. Keep an eye on the enemy team’s coordination of smokes and flashes as well; Once your line of defense has been broken, it can be quite difficult to regain control of the bombsite. Keep yourself strongly positioned, and turn these aim duels to your advantage. This next task will teach you how to consistently win these crucial aim duels.

It will position you at Ascent’s A heaven, giving you vision into A main as spherical targets strafe horizontally at the aforementioned choke point. The targets will spawn at different positions, adding an element of verticality to the task, ensuring that you hone your head tapping skills.

Securing Bombsite A on Haven

As our final focus on bombsite defense, we will be teaching you how to lock down A Site from Haven’s iconic Window position, walking you through critical angles, positioning tips, and a task designed to refine your defensive mechanics in this high-ground position. With some practice, you’ll gain the confidence to hold A Site from Window effectively, stopping attackers in their tracks.

Haven is one of the game’s few maps that offer the unique setup of having three bombsites (A, B, and C), our focus today will be built around defending A Site from Window, also known as Heaven. This position provides a powerful high-ground view over A Site’s two main attacker routes: A Long and A Short, and being able to make use of the large amount of vision it provides, as well as the highground position, will be a critical skill to you as a defender.

Each path offers unique challenges.

1) A Long: An open area leading into a narrow chokepoint

2) A Short: A Short has tighter corridors with multiple corners attackers will have to clear.

From the Window position, defenders can control both routes with a wide view of A Site, which is crucial for stopping the attacking team in their tracks early and forcing a rotation, or holding after a spike plant. However, the accessibility of this angle vision-wise, also means attackers can easily contest it, especially with agents capable of vertical movement such as Jett, Raze, and Omen.

Window’s vantage point also offers a safer approach back into A Site. As you rotate from B or defender spawn, re-entering from Window rather than A Tunnel reduces the risk of walking into the enemy’s crosshairs, as they are typically less likely to have extended into the window position. This final task will simulate this scenario, helping you hone your skills for reliable defensive options and confident retakes.

The task places you in the aforementioned window angle of Haven’s A Site, prompting you to shoot at targets that spawn across different common angles below you. The bots used in this task have head hit-boxes, necessitating that you aim for heads in order to eliminate them in quick succession!

Play rA VALORANT Haven ThreeShot

Through the completion of this plan and the included tasks, you have attained critical insight into the mechanics and tactics for defending key bombsites on three distinct VALORANT maps: Bind, Ascent, and Haven.

Starting with Bind’s B Site, you learned how to handle rapid attacker rotations through teleporters and avoid over-rotating, a skill that maintains team composure and site control. Moving to Ascent’s A Main, you practiced angle-holding in a narrow chokepoint, learning to hold off attackers strategically and using positional advantages to secure the site. Finally, with Haven’s A Site Window, you developed high-ground defense skills that give vision over A Long and A Short, supporting both site control and safer retakes in an optimal manner. Good luck out there!

To maximize your aiming performance, you'll want a warmup routine that fits into your schedule!

Throughout our Aimlabs Welcome Series, we’ve covered the terms you’ll see in all things aim training, analyzing your aim training progress, and how you can build your aim training regimen. Now it’s time to look into another critical practice of aim training and competitive gaming in general: your warmup routine.

More than likely, you’ve played a match in your game of choice, felt like you were shaking off the cobwebs to get your day started, and wrote that off as a ‘warmup match.’ Hey, we all do it. The important thing to take away here is that you already know you need to warm up before playing at your best. Instead of warming up with a throwaway match on the live server, why not introduce a purposeful warm-up routine to your process?

Start with Stretching

This may surprise some players, but gaming is much more physical than you might think. Sure, you’re just sitting in front of a screen and clicking on heads, but you’re locking yourself into a posture, moving your shoulders, elbows, and wrists as you play, and probably doing these repetitive motions for long periods. So, let’s ensure that you’re taking care of your body to stay healthy and ensure your tools are in tip-top shape.

Ron "Rambo" Kim displays a stretching routine on his YouTube channel

We won’t touch on how a healthy sleep schedule and diet can also benefit your gaming output, as that will likely be something we explore more in-depth in the future, but we want you to focus on making an effort to stretch before each gaming session moving forward. Stretches are not always one size fits all; you must find stretches that best benefit your setup, posture, and body.

YouTube can be an extremely valuable resource for finding stretches you can experiment with. Simply searching “Gaming Stretches” or “Esports Stretches” provides countless results, some directly from trained professionals, while others may be from fitness influencers or gamers. Living Legend Ron “Rambo” Kim has a lengthy, full-body general-purpose flexing routine that could be a great starting point for us gamers sitting at our desks.

General Purpose vs. Targeted Training Warmups

There are going to be two main categories of warmup routines that we would suggest. First, the general purpose warmup routine. This will be a routine ranging from 15 to 30 minutes in length where you’re touching on the main aim-related basics, such as flicking, tracking, and target switching, to get your muscles and reflexes ready for the session ahead.

The next warmup routine category is going to be the targeted training routine. This could be an extension of your targeted aim training efforts, where you’re working on a specific facet of your aim that you’ve identified as needing attention. You may want to work on a set of quick tracking drills to make sure you’re ready for all of the AD strafers out there in your ranked matches.

With the targeted training routine, we would still strongly suggest that you complement this practice with a shorter, general-purpose warmup as well, even if you’re running through a couple of quick tasks to warm up on the practices that you’re not explicitly focused on, to make sure that you are prepared for everything you’ll see on the server.

What Makes a Good General Purpose Warmup Routine?

At the risk of oversimplifying the answer, it’s variety. You want to cover the bases of every aiming situation you may find yourself in. Suppose you’re playing most competitive shooters like VALORANT, Counter-Strike 2, Apex Legends, Overwatch 2, or Call of Duty. In that case, you’ll find yourself tracking enemies, flicking, and target-switching multiple times in each match. You will want a warmup routine that reflects that to account for this.

Creating a Playlist on Aimlabs

Creating a few playlists could help streamline your warmup process, and starting with one short playlist to compliment the targeted training we mentioned above, one that is a medium-length all-purpose playlist, and one that is a bit longer would be helpful. For an alternative starting point, check out Voltaic’s Apex Legends Enhanced Training Warm-Up on the Aimlabs Steam Workshop to see if that is a good fit or if it generates some inspiration on the tasks you’ll want on your routine.

Finishing Touches For a Solid Warmup Routine

After you have finsihed your warmup through your aim training methods, we suggest you use the tools available in your game of choice. Every modern competitive shooter now features their own training ground environment, and others may have even more in-depth options, such as the Steam Workshop for Counter-Strike 2.

Starting with your general purpose warmup routine and then moving to warm up in your game of choice with a quick trip to the training grounds will help to acclimate your timing and accuracy with the in-game sounds and help you feel more comfortable with the in-game environment. Some Pro players will switch from Aimlabs to their game, running through some deathmatch or team deathmatch games with music to get into the zone. Other players have described a system of playing with music and with and without in-game audio. The key here is experimenting with these different concepts to see what feels the most comfortable for you and fits your schedule the best.

Remember, aim training and warming up should not feel like a chore. If it does, you may need to dial back the length of your routines until it feels as though it’s complimenting your gameplay without becoming a taxing part of your day that you dread. You have to have fun with this to make the most of it, and we understand that competitive gaming may not be your career yet, so don’t overdo it. Find what works for you, optimize, and maximize from there, and you’ll see the results follow!

Aimlabs’ Ranked Season 2: Dusk Runners is already in full swing and runs until the beginning of December, giving players roughly eight weeks to get on board and earn their rewards. Dusk Runners features nine tasks in total, broken down into three main aiming categories: Flicking, Tracking, and Switching.

Today, we will run through all nine tasks, complete with a preview video sharing some aim training tips for improving and a sample of the task as played by aimers in the top 5 positions on the current leaderboards. With a keen eye, an open mind, and a bit of practice, you’ll be able to get yourself ranked and begin working toward the goal of becoming a Dusk Runner Grandmaster!

Flicking Tasks

A selection of tasks designed to challenge your ability to flick onto targets, each featuring a variable that will force you to adapt under different types of pressure. Your main takeaway is to focus on your accuracy, as missing targets on the flicking tasks will penalize your score. Take your time, drill on your accuracy, and don’t be afraid to run through each task multiple times so you can gradually find your rhythm, maximizing your score each time.

Soarclick

Train your click timing skills with 6 targets soaring left and right simultaneously. The more targets you kill, the smaller they become. The score is fixed, awarded per kill, and deducted per miss.

 • Avoid trying to hit every target on screen; prioritize juggling 2-3 at a time.
 • Keep your crosshair in the center of the walls to maximize kills.

Sideclick

Train your under-pressure flicking skills with 4 targets alternating between two walls. Targets spawn in groups and switch walls when the wave is cleared or when 2 seconds have elapsed. The score is fixed, awarded per kill, and deducted per miss.

 • Avoid panicking or spam clicking upon missing.
 • Aim for precise shots and switch walls early if needed.

Angelclick

Train your click timing & target reading skills with 5 targets flying along the x & y axes. The more targets you kill, the smaller and more evasive they become. The score is fixed, awarded per kill, and deducted per miss.

 • Avoid spam clicking upon missing
 • Move on to the next target and take shots between their directional changes.

Tracking Tasks

Tracking tasks will feature targets that gradually move around the screen, requiring you to keep your mouse cursor over the target, firing to score points. These tasks feature no penalty for missing the target, so you can hold down left click as you attempt to correct your accuracy. Each task is designed to get gradually more challenging as your score increases, so attempt to maintain your cool and focus as the timer gradually counts down. Also, don’t be afraid to adjust your sensitivity until you can track the target smoothly.

Pongtrack

Train your precise tracking skills with targets ping-ponging off walls and changing directions between bounces. 4 health-regenerating targets spawn sequentially, each smaller and faster than the last. The score is awarded per hit, increasing with each target, with no miss penalty.

 • Avoid shakiness; match the target’s speed and trajectory.

Lineartrack

Train your precise & reactive tracking skills with targets moving linearly around you. 4 health-regenerating targets spawn sequentially, each thinner and more evasive than the last. The score is awarded per hit, increasing with each target, with no miss penalty.

 • Avoid shakiness; stay smooth and avoid trailing or over-correcting when targets change directions.

Controltrack

Train your precise & reactive tracking skills with targets moving along the x, y, & z axes. 4 health-regenerating targets spawn sequentially, each smaller and more evasive than the last. The score is awarded per hit, increasing with each target, with no miss penalty.

 • Avoid predicting; maintain control by smoothly reacting to movements in real time.

Switching Tasks

This set of tasks is all about picking up the moving targets and figuring out what the best path is through the task to maximize the amount of points you are scoring. You will want to ensure that you are constantly moving toward targets that have the most targets nearby that you can switch to with your follow-up, as you will be reducing the time you’re searching for what’s next. None of these tasks feature a miss penalty, so you can hold down the left click again as you move from target to target.

Levelswitch

Train your target prioritization & switching skills with 5 targets moving level along the x-axis. The score is awarded per kill, with no miss penalty, so hold down fire the entire time.

 • Avoid waiting for targets to land in your crosshairs; flick to each target and transition smoothly into horizontal tracking.
 • Allow targets to be destroyed before flicking to the next.

Swarmswitch

Train your target prioritization & switching skills with 7 targets swarming along the x, y, & z axes. The score is awarded per kill, with no miss penalty, so hold down fire the entire time.

 • Avoid switching off targets too early; actively match the target’s speed and trajectory to kill them before they change direction.

Bounceswitch

Train your target prioritization & switching skills with 5 bouncing targets. The score is awarded per kill, with no miss penalty, so hold down fire the entire time.

 • Avoid switching to falling targets; focus on switching to targets bouncing to their peak to give enough time to kill them before they hit the ground.
