Full Spectrum vs. Broad Spectrum vs. Isolate

When searching for CBD products you may have noticed terms like Broad Spectrum, Full Spectrum and Isolate. So what does it all mean?

CBD is one of hundreds of different beneficial plant compounds called “cannabinoids” that produce different therapeutic interactions in the body. CBD, as a single cannabinoid, is well researched and has wonderful benefits all on its own. However, science has found that there are far greater benefits when working together with ALL of the compounds present in the plant instead of using one single cannabinoid like CBD. This is what we call the entourage effect. Meaning, the cannabis compounds work synergistically together to regulate and utilize the overall effects of the entire plant.

Cannabinoids are only part of the formula that make up the magic that hemp has to offer. There are terpenes, flavonoids and other colorful compounds that all produce different effects in different combinations. When products are labeled Broad Spectrum, Full Spectrum or Isolate, what they are referring to is how much or how little of the whole plant they are using.

Full Spectrum ( WHOLE PLANT )

Cannabinoids are only part of the formula that make up the magic that hemp has to offer. There are terpenes, flavonoids and other colorful compounds that all produce different effects in different combinations. When products are labeled Broad Spectrum, Full Spectrum or Isolate, what they are referring to is how much or how little of the whole plant they are using.

Full spectrum CBD is the extraction of every plant material available in hemp including cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids and other compounds like fatty acids. Full spectrum products are the most accommodating to the entourage effect because nothing is excluded.

Full spectrum contains every natural ingredient in the plant including trace amounts of the cannabinoid THC. You may have heard of THC before as it is by far the most commonly known cannabinoid in the cannabis family. THC in higher doses is a psychotropic and can leave you with the “high effect” of marijuana. So does that mean Full Spectrum CBD will get you “high”? The answer is NO.

Full spectrum CBD contains 0.3% or lower of THC. This miniscule amount has shown to have completely different positive effects on the body but getting “high” is not one of them. In fact, CBD can actually combat the psychoactive effects of THC by blocking the cannabinoid receptors involved. Full spectrum CBD is truly an incredible product for everyone but if you are in a position where you may need to take a drug test you best stick to Broad Spectrum products for safe measure.

Broad Spectrum ( WHOLE PLANT WITHOUT THC )

Broad Spectrum CBD is very similar to full spectrum CBD. However, Broad Spectrum is the term for CBD that has been extracted from the cannabis plant with all of the other compounds from the plant except for THC. That means it contains all the same cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids and other compounds without the trace amounts of THC. This requires an extra step in processing to remove the THC but important for people want the benefit of the entourage effect but need to keep THC out of their systems

CBD Isolate ( JUST CBD )

CBD isolate is the most basic form of pure individualized CBD. It has been completely isolated from all other cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and compounds. Meaning, it will not give you the benefits of the entourage effect but is still great for people who are sensitive to other cannabinoids or want to supplement an existing product with singular CBD.
